Here are my definitions of discoursed community and commonplace.
Discoursed Community- a group or individual tha believes their purpose is to achieve a goal.
Commonplace- Is a mental image , picture, or a word that has an important repersentation.

I pretty much said the same thing. Have you found many places that have discourse communities or commonplaces?
ReplyDeleteGood definitions. I had a little trouble with the definition of commonplace. In the powerpoint there were some examples of commonplace books, I've never really seen anything like those.

A commonplace is a word, image, or term used as a sort of shortcut in communication for those in a discourse community. It is called a commonplace because it has a common, agreed upon meaning for the group.
A discourse community is a group united by a common goal or interest that uses langauge in specific ways in order to realize that goal. Think of how we talk in this class, for instance, using terms like post, WebCT, and essay to get things done.
